Alex Thompson

Alex Thompson oversees Brand Stewardship and Impact for REI. As an officer of the co-op, he is tasked with building long-term brand equity for the nation’s largest consumer co-operative. Through internal and external communications, public policy, government affairs, sustainability and philanthropy, Alex helps REI to lead with its values.

His team’s work involves engaging 12,000 employees in 149 stores, working closely with 300 non-profits, advancing sustainable business practices and inspiring 16 million REI members to pursue and enjoy “life outdoors” through initiatives including #OptOutside.

Before joining REI in 2014, Alex specialized in international communications and marketing in the for-profit, not-for-profit and public sectors. He served for more than a decade at Edelman in various roles on three continents. Latterly, as Executive Vice President in New York, he specialized in connecting business strategy with social mission and impact.

Alex began his career as a volunteer teacher oversees and studied politics and philosophy at the University of Leeds. He serves on the board of the Washington Environmental Council, is a member of the Arthur Page Society and recently joined the advisory board for Sustainable Brands.

Kevin Hogan is the Senior Brand Manager of Mountain Sports for The North Face. His career in the Outdoor Industry began ten years ago with a semester long internship at Outside Magazine in exchange for a Bongo Board and a glimpse of what he wanted to do for a living. Since then, Kevin has held roles in Sales, Brand Marketing, and Sports Marketing at Nike, The North Face, and a creative agency called Upshot.

Keely Wachs is the director of company affairs for Clif Bar & Company, a leading maker of nutritious and organic foods for people on the go. Guided by the company’s five bottom lines – Sustaining our Business, our Brands, our People, our Community and the Planet – he is responsible for leading the company’s branding, global issues, reputation and public affairs efforts.

Before joining Clif Bar & Company, Keely served as vice president of corporate communications for BrightSource Energy, where he ran the solar company’s global communications, marketing and community relations efforts. Keely also lead Pacific Gas & Electric’s Environmental Communications Department, where he oversaw the utility’s renewable energy, climate change, clean air transportation, energy efficiency, and land stewardship communications efforts.

Keely’s previous experience includes co-founding and overseeing Blanc & Otus Public Relations’ Cleantech practice. Keely also managed public diplomacy programs for the U.S. Department of State.

Keely holds a Masters in International Affairs from the University of California, San Diego with a focus on environmental and economic policy, and a B.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

An avid surfer and soccer player, Keely spends his free time at the beach or on the field. He resides in Oakland, California with his wife and two children.

First and foremost, Jainee Dial is a storyteller. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Digital Media Production from the Art Institute of Portland and has worked in the film and media industries on award-winning documentaries, music videos, and commercial productions. Throughout her career she has directed and developed a wide range of stories, websites, and thought-provoking content for .

Jainee has a proven track record of leadership and an entrepreneurial spirit. In 2009, she co-founded Nomad Adventures in Wellness, a Portland-based adventure travel company. She is also the co-founder of The B-Rad Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that creates leadership programs for underserved youth and community-based environmental stewardship projects.

Inspired by her love of adventure and expertise in design, Jainee has dedicated her life's path to the creation of WYLDER, a mission-driven marketplace for the modern outdoorswoman. Wylder curates from socially responsible brands and as the first female-owned Benefit Corporation in the state of Utah, Wylder’s mission is to pave the way to a more sustainable path of ethical consumerism.

When not designing and planning the evolution of WYLDER, Jainee will likely be found hiking, trail running, climbing, and exploring in the mountains and deserts of the West with her pup Hawkeye.

Ashley is a managing director at Public Land Solutions, a non-profit focused on promoting the recreation economy in communities previously dependent on resource extraction. PLS coordinates local and national stakeholders to create healthy landscapes which lead to healthy economies. Ashley is also CEO of Western Spirit Cycling, a mountain bike outfitter that holds over 50 permits on the public land system in 12 states. She holds an MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth has served on public land advisory committees for: the State of Utah, the Bureau of Land Management, the Outdoor Industry Association, and the Western Governor’s Association. She is a previous Chairman of the International Mountain Bicycling Association and an inductee in the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame.

Ted Manning

Ted Manning is the CEO at Ibex Outdoor Clothing, and has been lucky to call the outdoor industry home for over 20 years. He started his career at Eastern Mountain Sports, starting on the retail floor as a high school kid and ending up as the Executive Vice President. After a little time off, he found his way to Ibex. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Conservation Alliance and the Trust For Public Land (VT).

Ted loves what he does; working with great people to make clothing he is proud to sell. He loves that this industry’s values so closely mirror he own; being active outside, preserving our wild places and never taking any of it too seriously.

He believes that leadership is the antidote to bureaucracy, partnership is the key to success, determination defeats despair and some ideas, in the hands of those who care, can and will change the world.

As OIA’s Government Affairs Manager, Wahl promotes OIA’s recreation policy goals, focusing on securing increased funding, access and infrastructure for outdoor recreation and promoting the outdoor industry agenda in Washington, DC. She plays a key role in policy development and analysis, political engagement and grassroots organizing. Wahl comes to OIA from the Department of the Interior (DOI), where she worked in the Office of the Secretary on external affairs and youth engagement in the outdoors. Wahl also managed the first lady’s Let’s Move Outside! and Let’s Move! In Indian Country initiatives on behalf of the DOI and other agencies. Wahl received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in American government and politics from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She is still addicted to politics and the news but is also an avid outdoorswoman, who loves kayaking, climbing, hiking and running.
