David Labistour Bio

David Labistour is the Chief Executive Officer of Mountain Equipment Co-op, Canada’s leading outdoor retailer.
 
David brings both passion for outdoor adventure and extensive business experience to the position. His career started in product design and has, over the past 30 years, included product development, retail management and strategic planning with companies such as Adidas, a Marks and Spencer affiliate in S.A. and Aritzia in Canada.
 
David is MEC’s first CEO to have been appointed from within the 45-year-old organization. In his former capacity as the Senior Manager of Buying and Design, David was part of the Executive team that transformed the MEC Brand -shaping its award winning recognition as Canada’s best Omni-channel leader as well as Canada’s favorite and most trusted brand whist equally encompassing sustainability initiatives operation wide.  
 
He enjoys a range of activities in the outdoors including backcountry skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and kite surfing.

Vik Sahney is an outdoor adventurer that strives to help others experience the transformative power of the outdoors through his role as the Head of Sustainability at REI and his community engagements. In 2011, he became one of 350 people in history - and the first Indian American - to climb the 7 Summits (the tallest peak on each continent, including Mt. Everest). He lives in downtown Seattle with his wife and 2 young daughters.

Susan Viscon Bio

Susan Viscon is senior vice president of REI’s Merchandising and Private Brands divisions, overseeing the retailer’s gear and apparel assortment of more than 1,400 external brands and REI’s award-winning Private Brands. Under her leadership, between 2014 and 2015 REI grew comparable store sales seven percent to a company total of $2.4B, offering both leading and emerging brand products through its digital and retail stores. The co-op focuses on outdoor enthusiasts who love camping, climbing, cycling, fitness, hiking, paddling, snow sports and travel.
 
She is currently board vice president for Camber Outdoors [formerly known as the Outdoor Industry Women’s Coalition] and she will assume board presidency in 2017. Susan is a graduate of the respected Leadership Tomorrow program in Seattle. She has been recognized by Sporting Goods Business magazine as one of the “40 under 40” leaders of influence in the outdoor industry and is also recipient of the REI Leadership Award.
 
Susan’s recent service includes the executive advisory board for the University of Arizona Center for Retailing and as a trustee at her daughter’s school.  With her family, she enjoys traveling, camping and skiing domestically and abroad.

 Valerie joined MEC’s sustainability team in 2011. As Director of Sustainable Business Innovation, she is responsible for developing and implementing MEC’s sustainability strategy, which is focused on both environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Part of Valerie’s role is to ensure that sustainable business practices are embedded in MEC’s operations and MEC-brand products, and considered as MEC curates product assortment at the retail level.
Previously, Valerie worked at a Vancouver-based energy-monitoring software start-up, and prior to that spent 4 years working in product management and marketing for a food technology company in her native Austria. 
Valerie has an undergraduate degree in International Business Administration from Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. Convinced that businesses have the power to create positive and lasting environmental and social change, Valerie completed her MBA at the University of British Columbia in 2011 with a focus on sustainability and strategy.
